Fear of Socialism

I am not sure how it is that the populace of the United States has been scared into believing that socialism in any form is a bad thing. Perhaps the propagation of this notion serves the purpose of the right wing, and in furtherance of that purpose they incite righteous indignation, creating mobs, who protest the loudest and understand the least. Perhaps if they spent less time worshiping Ronald Reagan, and more time researching history and facts, they would realize that socialism plays a role in our society. Social Security and Medicare, as examples of "socialist" programs, provide bare minimum protection against homelessness, disease and hunger in the elderly, and were put into place in the decades following the despair of the Great Depression. So called "socialist programs" are not about the expectations referred to in the blog linked below.

  1. Feel of socialism is well founded and has been for generations. One does not have to know how a apple taste to know it's a apple, But with socialism we know by examples in last hundred of it's failures. Social security and Medicare and Medical as you mention as classic failure with huge deficits and yet Progressives/liberals keep point to them as a success. We've seen how socialism falls apart in economic reality and we know though history it keeps fall apart and the cost to society? Well people have a right to be frighten!

  2. I suppose the person posting the comment above will of course, forego the receipt of socialist Social Security and Medicare when he/she becomes eligible in keeping with their obvious and voiced ideological beliefs.

  3. I suppose the person posting above will forego forcing the person above her to pay into the system in the first place. If she is anti-capitalism, I hope she would forego collecting a paycheck. Ever. In fact, isn't Blogspot a private company? If you believe in the need for government to run private services, I'm sure, by your own logic, you will only feel comfortable posting on a government site. Why are you here? This is scary capitalism at work. See those ads to our right?

I love that argument. Your money is taken from you by force, but if you object to having it taken, then you're not allowed to take it back from the government. What a religious argument.

  4. No where in my original post did I make an argument that socialism should supercede or replace capitalism. Maybe anonymous should try reading what is actually said instead of aiming for sensationalism like FAUX news and making it up as they go along.

  5. I don't care if the US is Socialist. Many other successful countries are socialist and they do fine. My only problem is billing your country as democratic when in reality, you're socialist. Just tell it like it is and everyone will be happy (or maybe not). If you don't like it, leave. Speaking of which, I'm already planning a trip to scope out my new address in socialist France.
